"And you will not take that away from me."
I had actually planned on doing a comic about fat shaming/avoidance because I was starting to see some posts on tumblr that bothered me… but then I saw these beautiful, happy, plus-sized models on a few clothing websites I was browsing for cute cut-off denim shorts and I decided I wanted to show big girls being positive about their image.
Fat girls are told from the day they are born they are unwanted, unloved, unattractive, and unimportant. While all girls deal with body issues in one way or another, most media shaming/mockery only occurs with overweight women and I really think that needs to be said.
There are virtually no overweight female leads in movies/tv, and when they do exist, they are almost always made to fill a comedic relief role or role completely central to their weight. They are not allowed to have boyfriends, to enjoy anything other than diet food or salads, or wear cute/skimpy clothes because society says fat women cannot do that. Women who are overweight are told through media, diet ads, movies, etc. they are not allowed to feel beautiful, happy, or enjoy their life because they do not look thin enough.
Most fat girls don’t even realize how important/beautiful they are until their mid-20s because of pressuring media/advertisements/movies, and basically being told most of their life that they are unwanted because of their waistline, and that breaks my heart. I am here to tell you fuck society, fuck media - dress exactly the way you’ve always wanted to dress, wear makeup the way you’ve always wanted to wear, enjoy your life the way you told yourself you always would. Don’t ever tell yourself you don’t deserve it because of the way you look - you deserve to be happy, to enjoy every day of your wonderful life and don’t you dare ever let anyone tell you differently.
You are important, you are beautiful, you are yourself.
That’s all that matters.
